Question by Kate_: Careers in the medical field specifically involving bloodwork?
I’ve been searching and wondering, what type of careers in the medical field besides phlebotomy can you go to school for to work specifically with the blood, such as evaluation, identifying, specific diseases which involve the blod, etc etc??

I live in arizona and to become a phlebotomist (minus the prerequisites) the actual course is only 9 months. I would like to work in this field but would not like to spend more then 2-3 years in college to advance into this type of medical field. Any information is helpful!!!

Best answer:

Answer by Shannon XoXo
A 4-year program to a job working with blood and body fluids to diagnose diseases etc. would be a medical technology or clinical laboratory science.
There is also a 2-year program that is somewhat similar to this but with less responsibilities and less pay, which would be clinical laboratory technician I believe.
The general category of what you are interested is clinical laboratory science, and you will find the kind of program that you are looking for at an allied health school. I think what it’s called is Clinical Laboratory Technician. I’ve seen it abbreviated CLT/MT also.
http://www.allalliedhealthschools.com has a search feature to look for schools that offer the program that you want. Also you can try google, they could be missing some.

Question by Julio Gerhardt Kenazawa: Physician Assistant salary range?
I’ve heard the range vary from $ 35k to $ 90k, and an “average starting salary” of $ 65k. Can anyone shed some light on this? I’m mostly shocked at the $ 35k number b/c there are associate degree-careers in that range. Any resources on the marketability of PAs?

Best answer:

Answer by kristina f
It depends where you work what you’ll make. A small town family practice PA in a poor state like Louisiana could very well make at the low end. The range seems appropriate because those same associate degrees might make much less in those same areas. The hospital I used to work for posts pay scale on their website for employment. It’s a major health system in a large city so the mid range is more accurate.

Best answer:

Answer by Marlee
The medical environment holds a rich vein of different jobs from the obvious nurse and doctor jobs to adminstrative jobs. My sister wanted to work in this field, but she wasn’t certain exactly what she wanted to do. She found the site in the resource box below, it has lots of tips and tricks, and it guided her to settle what she wanted to do. They have guidance with other jobs too.

Question by miooil: registered nurse salary question?
just graduated…and i was wondering: do hospitals deduct Tax from ur payment check??? like how many percent??? im single and I heard tax is larger if you don’t have family?….i live in manhattan.

please answer.

Best answer:

Answer by Judy
Well, yes, they’ll deduct taxes. They’ll deduct 7.65% for social security and medicare. The amounts deducted, for federal and state income taxes, will depend on your total income so it’s impossible to give a percentage here without knowing your total income. There will also be NYC income tax.

Your rates for federal and state income tax depend on your filing status and personal situation – since you get exemptions for dependent family members, your total taxable income is larger if you don’t have any than if you did, so yes it’s true that tax is larger if you don’t have dependents.

Question by : how hard is it for a medical assistant to find a job in connecticut that has a felony?
my friend is going to school for medical assisting, she caught a felony back around in 2008 or 09 for selling drugs.. do you think she has any type of chance to find a job once she finishes?

Best answer:

Answer by Jay
A felony drug conviction will keep her out of the medical industry for a number of years in most locals.

After some time has passed she can apply to the court for closure of the records. Having evidence of attending some drug treatment programs and record of attendance at 12-step programs may help in getting those records closed. But right now it is still too close to the event to have any expectation of success.

Question by Derricks Angel: Medical Office Assisting/ CNA Occupations?
I am currently enrolled in an online Medical Office Assisting course and am learning the fundamental trades of office work but have always wanted to learn some fundamental trades of clinical procedures (checking vital signs, blood pressure, etc.) However, I am deathly afraid to draw blood and was wondering what would possibly be the best profession for me to go into where I can do both clincal and office procedures without having to possibly draw blood. I know at some hospitals you can actually request to do certain things but would it be best to get my CNA certification or to get a Medical Assisting diploma or certificate? Do you think that since I am fixing to be certified in Medical Office Assisting that I should just take the 1 month-3 month CNA course or what? Please help! Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by Irish Cat
I can advise you on becoming a CNA. Contrary to popular belief, this job is not made up of “wiping butts”. The wages are good comparatively too, I make 11.52/hr. I was trained at the nursing home that currently employs me and they actually paid me to become a CNA. Many nursing homes will do this for you, whether the training be paid or free, it is still much better then shelling out the min. $ 600 at a community college to become certified. Call around to local nursing homes, I guarantee you will find one with this type of a training class. I would check it out. Now on to the job itself. Being a CNA is one of the most humble and rewarding careers I believe you could choose. Your job is no longer just about a paycheck, it has greater meaning. You deal with the same residents day in and day out so you become for a lot of them, the only family they have. I cannot think of a greater purpose then to care for those who most often are forgot about in society. You can be the one that makes the difference in their lives. It is rewarding beyond words. So much so that I took a 50% pay cut to do this type of work and I couldnt have made a better decision. This is also a position wih amazing job security (the baby boomer are start to age into geriactrics) and unlimited growth potential (many institiutions offer tuition reimbursement). Good luck on your decision, just follow your heart and you will find happiness.
